I have always wanted to adopt, ever since I can really remember. I never kept it a secret, and have been hinting to my family for years. After we got married, we continued to discuss adoption, and luckily, Doug was very open to the idea. I started researching agencies, "googling" every now and again, and as we approached our 2 year anniversary (for most countries, couples needed to be married 2 years prior to referral), I started getting more serious about collecting applications. Applications that sat on my desk for months, because I always had another excuse...mainly, work being too busy. I was done with the excuses, and I scheduled an informational session with Aliance for Children, an agency in MA (we knew we wanted a local agency, so that we would easily be able to bring documents to their office and meet their staff). Although we enjoyed the informational session, something just didn't "click" when I started to ask questions. Why would an agency hold back information? So, off to agency number 2, "Wide Horizons for Children." We attended an informational session on August 11th, and we were pretty certain they were the best agency for us. Luckily, we have some neighbors and friends of friends who also adopted through them, so we felt confident in our decision. Let the process begin.......
