A Week's Worth of Firsts!!!

Now that I am home with my 2 children, I don't know how all of you do it?  How do you possibly keep up with your own blog, never mind everybody elses?

I am falling behind, way behind.  I am enjoying every moment being home with M & B.  I am not even thinking about work.  If I could find a way to stay home for a year, I probably would.

We have had a busy two months at home together (we celebrated 8 weeks home this past Saturday!), and the kids are getting ready for school.  Or, maybe I should say that Doug and I are getting ready.  I have brought Biskut to her school twice now.  The first day she lasted about an hour, the second day, about an hour and a half.   Every time we drive by their respective schools, we shout out "Muse's school, Biskut's school!"  Now every time we drive by, they shout out "Muse's school! Biskut's school!"  Until last week.....Doug brought Muse into his school.  And now, when we drive by, Muse shouts "Muse's school...NO!"  Uh oh.   So today, we went back to school so he could meet his teacher.  He was actually interested, poking around his classroom, saying "What is this?  What is that?"  I think he is going to be okay.  The first few days will definitely be a transition, but he is going to be alright.

I wanted to attach some pictures from the last couple of weeks at home, and share some of their "firsts" with you:

Davis Farmland (not just your average farm...they have a spray and play park too!)

And they had their first dentist appointment.  Although I brought my camera, I spared them from pictures.  Biskut had to go first.  She was so proud of her clean smile.  Muse wasn't nearly as excited, but his teeth got cleaned (thanks Biskut for going first!).  He got a little restless towards the end, so we are going back for xrays this week.  Yay!

Muse had his first real haircut!  I trimmed it once, but soon realized it would be a better idea if somebody who knew what he was doing cut it (doesn't he look soooo handsome?):

And we got to celebrate Uncle Brian's birthday together.  It was their first birthday celebration....candles to blow out, presents to open......not a bad gig!  We plan to celebrate Muse's birthday in September, but we are trying to figure out how to handle it with little Miss Biskut.

We went to the movies as a family, "Cats and Dogs: the Revenge of Kitty Galore" and as we expected, Muse got antsy 3/4 of the way through, while Biskut loved every minute of it.  Luckily, Muse put his 3-D glasses back on, sat back, and enjoyed the rest of the show.

Muse loves *everything* Daddy loves: Harry Potter, Guitars and Golf.  For Muse, its all about the cah-see (ball) going high in the air.  Doug takes him to the driving range once a week so they can hit a bucket of balls.  Muse is an incredible athlete!  So, we took them mini (putt putt) golfing too!  Rules didn't work, so we had fun hitting the ball around the course (much to Doug's dismay at first).  Muse has already asked to go back.

Lastly, we went to a local amusement park.  We were a bit weary of spending the money, only to have them last an hour.  They also have a water park, so we thought if we needed to, we could "bribe" them with water.  Well, that wasn't necessary.....6.5 hours later, WE had to drag THEM out of there.  We were exhausted.  They LOVED it!  Even without going in the water (hard to believe, I know.....Ethiopian children seem to really, really, really love water!!)

Parenthood has been an adventure, a wonderful, fun, amazing adventure.  I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I can't comment on how to keep up on blogs, but I'll watch this space in case someone who manages it has some ideas!

  2. Good luck with the school transition! It sounds like you are doing a great job of introducing them to their schools and trying to make it a positive experience. Love the photo of B on the carousel, and the one of M getting his hair cut!

  5. I keep up with my and others' blogs, fold some laundry, and read books while reluctantly sitting with my girls every night while they fall asleep. They will have been home one year Sept 6 and I'm still sitting, albeit for a much shorter period now. I'm actually noticing that I'm getting less and less done because they're out too quick. HAHA!

  7. Looks like you are having great adventures together. They already look so different from when you brought them home. Might just be the haircut, but I suspect it's something more...

  8. I had to laugh at the Muse's school No! I could just picture it all. :-)

You have so many neat things near you there. I am not sure we even have a petting zoo here. St. Louis had sooooo much for children.. ugh. Oh well. I guess they can learn to go crabbing off the dock or look at the alligators in the neighborhood pond. ugh. I have to work on finding things to do here.. besides playgrounds.
