Finally a Family of Four!!

We passed court today!  We received our "Good News from Ethiopia" email at 11:49am.  Doug must have been refreshing his email every second, because he sent me a text and called me immediately. I, on the other hand, was at a work appointment, about to present to 15 doctors.  During my introduction by a colleague, I grabbed my phone and saw the email!  It was one of those moments.  I announced to everyone in the room that we are officially parents (I didn't know whether to jump for joy or cry, so I think it may have been some strange combination of both....maybe a little surreal too?).  I explained quickly, and a room full of people who had never met me before clapped and cheered.  They also found out before anybody else.  Not exactly how I planned, however, who can plan for that moment?  Nobody.  It kinda just happens.  :)

I don't know if anybody else has felt this way....my stomach has been in knots.  I don't know how I am going to sleep.  I have all of this nervous energy pulsating through my body.  I have my lists, and there are many things I can't tackle til tomorrow (like telling my manager that I leave in 7 days)....and my list continues to grow (whats with the bills newer than 2003 thing?).

The good news.  I have already bought everything I need to buy for this trip.  I have been picking up a few things here and a few things there (thank you everybody for your blog lists of things to bring, and things you wish you had brought).  We ordered their family album over the weekend (what timing), and the birth family letter has been written.  Their book bags are filled with goodies for the plane ride home, and, we have a bunch of stuff to help occupy all of us at the Guest House.  If there is anything at all you can think of that you wish you knew about or wish you brought, please, please feel free to comment.  I would like to think that I have thought of it all, but I know that isn't possible.

I'd love to say right now that I am ready for bed, but that isn't possible either.

  5. I still simply cannot believe that you are traveling NEXT WEEK!! That's got to be the fastest travel call ever, but of course it is simply wonderful. I'm glad you were so good at planning and preparing for the trip - because you are going next week! Woohoo!

  6. Yayy! I can't believe you leave next week! I don't remember if I mentioned this, but bring small roll of toilet paper to your birthfamily trip (it is also useful for other things like noses and such, but definitely should have had one during that trip)!

  8. Amy, Congrats! Just seeing this.

Pass on your packing list after you get back. I would love to keep a copy of it. I know you sent me one, but I wasn't sure if you updated it.

    Looking forward to photos.

I am wondering.. if people are going that fast after passing court, then what are they going to do about the two trip people? It would really be a waste for two tickets if things might move that fast.
