One year ago today, while I was hanging out with a colleague in Buffalo, NY, we received "the call." A day I will never forget. Today, we celebrated with a small cake (the kids thought it was somebody's birthday, and were apparently expecting some presents).
10,000 miles away, one year ago, a family was filled with sorrow. A year ago, our hearts were filled with joy and hope.
Today, I remember their family, who did the most selfless thing anybody could ever do. They gave two children a chance. A chance at health, a chance at an education, and a chance to simply survive.
And they gave us the greatest gift. To parent two beautiful, sensitive, smart and sassy Ethiopian children.
Thank you, dear family, thank you.
