What I have learned about our children

Seven months ago today, we landed on U.S. soil with our son and daughter.  This is what I have learned about them over the past seven months (in no particular order):

1. The are the two most resiliant human beings that I have ever met
2. Muse is a morning person, Biskut, is not
3. They find *pure* enjoyment in the smallest of things
4. They aren't afraid of the dark, but *hate* to go to bed
5. They love watching movies, and really don't care about playing with toys
6. They are both beginning to have the "I can do it" attitude
7. Muse is all boy, through and through (the rough and tumble type)
8. Biskut is all girl, through and through (the skirt lovin', bling lovin', Punky Brewster-like type)
9. Muse loves motorcycyles.  He thinks he is going to get one one day (think again little man!)
10. Biskut *loves* her mommy
11. Muse *loves* his daddy (anything that daddy loves, Muse does too)
12. They talk about Ethiopia very "matter-of-fact"
13. They *love* their little sister and spending time with her
14. Their smiles and eyes light up a room
15. They fascinate me
16. They remind me every day of the importance of family
17. They have become picky eaters (a far cry from the first 2 weeks home when they ate everything)
18. They love their new family, especially their grandparents, Uncle Brian, Auntie Meg, and now baby E
19. They are learning to love their dogs (its a big step for ET children)
20. Although they fight like siblings, they love to sleep together in the same room
21. They would much rather be riding bikes then playing with legos
22. Slowly but surely, they are enjoying being read to
23. Biskut's favorite book is "Bear on a Bike." Expect her to stand up and shout "Where are you going bear, please wait for me!" when you read with her
24. They love the water, and the snow (good thing we have both here in New England!)
25. Biskut likes to cook Ethiopian food
26. Muse wants nothing to do with Ethiopian food
27. They have stopped speaking Sidama (sadly)
28. But, they have one word that they continue to use...."fa-sa" -- thank goodness, because it translates to "fart" :)
29. Biskut hates chocolate (is she really my daughter?)
30. They both love their buna (coffee)
31. They are both germ-a-phobes, and wash their hands several times a day (not a bad habit to get into)
32. They aren't afraid to tell anyone who walks in our house, "shoes, off!"
33. Biskut still refers to herself in the 3rd person
34. Muse will occassionally blurt out, "I like it, Muse!
35. They are very affectionate, and love their hugs, kisses and tickles
36. They understand *way* more than we give them credit for
37. They are undoubtedly fully attached, they admire and look up to us, look to us for comfort, for encouragement and for guidence, and for love...and I love, loving them back.

  3. Awwwww, this is so sweet. You'll have to share this with them when they are a little older. I agree with Kristin, this is why we chose to adopt siblings. Ummm, where are the pictures...? =)

  5. Hi honey,
From day one, you have offered your children unconditional love and they are blossoming. As I read down your list, my smile grew bigger and bigger and I know the comfort, encouragement, and guidance that Muse & Biskut receive from both you & Doug allow them to feel secure and loved.
What I've learned about my daughter is that she is an awesome mother :)
    Big hug,
    Mom
